Stay password SAFE

A blended learning and communications campaign to promote cyber security best practices following a series of critical security failures.

The client’s userbase is spread across several countries and includes on-site, hybrid, and remote employees using a variety of devices to access work accounts and software.

Due to to short turnaround time, the solution needed to be as efficient as possible not only in terms of design and development, but also deployment and completion.

To meet these requirements, I worked with the cyber security and IT teams to identify the 6 key areas that all employees could positively impact through simple behaviour changes.

For each area, I created a short ‘top tips’ video that was shared to all employees via the intranet, a desktop background/screensaver, and a checklist.

I then worked with the internal communications team to send weekly emails over a 3 month period, drip feeding the videos and checklists, as well as sharing ‘top tips’ from the cyber security team. This nudge-based approach maintained awareness of the campaign and allowed for tracking through email analytics.

Watch the ‘Stay Password SAFE’ video

These 30-second videos focus on 5 simple and practical things every employee could do, or avoid doing, to improve compliance.

By not using any voiceover, the localisation process could be completed in hours rather than days for the 7 countries in which these were deployed.

This approach also minimised development time. Once the client had signed off on the 5 tips to be included, each video was developed within 3-4 hours.

Tools used in this project

Following the successful deployment of this campaign, the primary performance metric (compliance audit results) improved by 8-27%, depending on the business area. The client has continued using this as a nudge-based compliance improvement template.
